The Cotton Association of India (CAI) released its June Estimates (as on 30th June 2010) of the Cotton Crop for the season 2009-10. CAI retained the Cotton Crop for the new season at 305.50 lakh bales as estimated in the last month with a slight change in State-wise figures. The projected Balance Sheet drawn by CAI for the season 2009-10, estimated the total cotton supply at 385.00 lakh bales while the domestic consumption was retained at 250.00 lakh bales, thus leaving a surplus of 135.00 lakh bales. The estimated cotton exports during 2009-10 season are placed at 81.00 lakh bales. A statement containing the State-wise estimates of Crop and Balance Sheet for the season 2009-10 and the corresponding data for the previous season 2008-09 is given below.
With the estimated exports of 81 lakh bales as stated above, the carry over stock at the end of the season will be at 54 lakh bales. Having regard to the estimated arrivals of 299.00 lakh bales as on 30th June 2010, the crop for the season 2009-10 is well set to cross 300 lakh bales.
The Association reiterates its request to the Government to move raw cotton exports back to the “Free List” and allow such exports without any restrictions.
